Kinda like Robert Esche at #19. Probably the worst draft selection in the entire draft.

I looked through San Jose selections....saw the GM replaced....at least twice....the guys went hot and cold with the picking

Heijduk and Kippersoft in the first 2 rounds

Round 4 Radim Vrabata (never recall him being THAT good)
Round 5 Peter Bondra (obviously in no mood for long term building)
Round 10 Andreas Johansson (was he ever any good?)

But then Andy McDonald's picked in like Round 12

One of the best picks of draft though(in terms of guys who were left for me to take over with)
Round 40 Dennis Wideman

The Vrbata pick was the worst pick in the entire draft IMO... IIRC Vrbata was playing in Carolina at that time and would have been available in round 15+. I think the GM resigned shortly after that pick.

He was said already on the first page by the original canes GM.

Some additions though

of course how can you forget the biggest steals...
27. New York Rangers- Jose Theodore G
32. Florida David Aebischer G

but seriously.
468. Tampa Bay Zach Parise F
469. Philadelphia Ryan Miller G
456. St. Louis Dominik Hasek G
528. Tampa Bay Ryan Getzlaf F

Of course I don't think there can be complaints about the player pick last in the draft.
1193. Los Angeles (from Detroit) Peter Bubaj G

I'd call that a bit of a steal...

The biggest steal in the draft is no doubt 363. Vancouver Evgeni Malkin
