Nice page, I haven't seen that chart used before and it looks really good. As for your team, it looks pretty solid. Obviously I would try to move one of your goalies to improve your forwards.

Thanks, i use nhlnumbers alot, so i figured it'd be easier if i had my own chart. lol

I am planning on moving one of them in search of either a top six forward or a top four Dman. im scared that after the Vanek deal Emery might get offered something thats front loaded - maybe from LA or Pheonix. thatd screw me on the cap.

Off-season and the Quarter way point

When GM Nick Wilson stepped into the hot seat this past off-season people knew that roster changes would be coming. With two #1 caliber goaltenders in Ray Emery and Niklas Backstrom, a D-core that lacks depth and a lack of scoring punch on the second line, the inbox was crowded on a daily basis.

The first move to be made was one of the goalies. With Emery slated to be the starter for what was best team in the NHL (Ottawa) stats were certain to be easy to come by. And after signing a 3 year 9.5mil deal he was the affordable choice. Although Backstrom lead the NHL in GAA the year before he would soon be moved in a deal:

To Dallas
Niklas Backstrom, Shawn Horcoff, Keith Ballard
To Pittsburg
Brian Gionta, Chris Phillips, Sean Avery

Gionta was expected to provide secondary scoring, and Phillips would be a workhorse on the defensive side of the puck.

After a deal that sent Sheppard and staois to San Jose for Kallin and a pick, and Wayne Primeau to Buffalo for Teppo Numminen the roster seemed to be set.
And at the drop of the puck in the preseason all looked well for the Pens. The top duo of Lecavalier and Alfredsson were lighting the lap with almost 2 points per game. The current club looked like a potential contender which started to worry GM Wilson: "These leagues are for fun, and as a Leafs fan I would find it hard to watch Alfredsson win the Cup". These feelings coupled with Alfredssons fast start to the NHL season put his value at an all-time high. Wilson then took advantage with back to back blockbuster deals:

To Vancouver
Wade Redden, Dimitri Kallinin, Vernon Fiddler, Cal 2nd 08, Pitt 3rd 09
To Pittsburg
Mathieu Schneider, Matias Ohlund, Brad Isbister, Kulyash (prospect), Van 1st 08

To Toronto
Daniel Alfredsson, Matais Ohlund, Sean Avery, Keith Yandle (Prospect)
To Pittsburg
Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Scott Niedermayer, Ville Peltonen, Marc Streit, Tor 1st 08

Not only did these deals put the Pens defense among the best in the league with Neidermayer (84ov), Schneider (80ov), Phillips (78ov) logging most of the minutes, and add crucial depth to the organization but it also helped to set up the future of the franchise with the acquisition of young winger Pierre-Marc Bouchard and two additional first round picks in what is touted to be one of the deepest drafts in recent league history.

The defence was obviously ready for action, but questions surrounded the teams ability to score beyond Lecavalier. These questions would soon be answered by Petr Cajanek who would step up to lead the team in points (23 in 19gms) along with the leagues highest team goal total (71) and league best Powerplay (26.9%).

The main question now remains can this squad keep up the pace for another 60 games.

2007-2008 Presidents Trophy Winners

The Penguins finished off the year as the top team of the regular season, finishing in a 3 way tie for points with Toronto and Calgary at 104. Fortunately the Pens finished with a league leading 48 wins, which gave them the tie-break and the hardware.

One of the most consistant teams in the league, they finished in the top portion of several key regular season categories:

League Best 278 goals for
League Best 26.1 shots against/game
2nd best 19.1% PP
2nd best 87.6% PK
3rd best 14.4 PIMS/game against
4th best 30.4 Shots For/game
6th best 212 Goals against

Not only did they play a good team game, but a couple of individuals stepped up to lead in key stats:

Rocket Richard Trophy Winner - Vincent Lecavalier (42 goals)

Tied for most Wins - Ray Emery (45wins)

Although management is happy with the regular season put together by this club, it will mean nothing if it isn't followed by a deep Cup run in the coming months. The likes of Lecavalier, Sundin, and Neidermayer are expected to prove that there is no Presidents Trophy ginx.

Although it was the top duo of Bouchard/Lecavalier that ran the show for the regular season, it was the second liners Tucker/Sundin that did the most damage in the playoffs. Behind Neidermayer, the Tucker/Sundin duo finished 2nd & 3rd in playoff scoring, followed by Andrew Brunette:

Sundin: 10g, 10a - 20pts
Brunette: 5g, 13a - 18pts

2008 ESHL Awards

Vincent Lecavalier was awarded with the Hart Trophy, for MVP of the league.

Heading into the offseason, GM Nick Wilson will have several factors play into his decision making. Including retirement, increased salaries, and team depth. The overall goal will be to maintain the highest level of acheivement.
