I agree with florida. Statsny value is low now from being injured all last season

I think he could have also got more for the value of a top 5 draft pick each year and Statsny was a 2nd round pick? I just think it was a weird trade for what the team is up against.

Stastny's wasn't 2nd round return skill wise so where he was picked is irrelevant now. The kid's got skill and he's still quite young.
Ottawa has a very solid D and now some resemblence of offense with a good goaltender. Theres no guarentee those are top 5 picks (I'd estimate more 4-10 actually). Even if next years pick is top 5 theres no guarentee that that player will even be a 60-70 point forward or top defensmen. Hell even first overalls have been flops in the past. Beyond that the 2011 could be even later with guys like Oscar Moller and JVR coming up thats potential for a decent top 6 definantly not a guarentee'd top 5 pick.
Ottawa walks away with a bonified #1 center. Hell Toronto(NHL) gave up 2 firsts and a second for a guy who's best season totaled 60 points where Statsny at a year older has two 70+ seasons under his belt and one season over a PPG not to mention his rookie campaign he was only 4 points short of a PPG.

How am I trying to win now? Stastny is all of 24 y/o. I am not getting an over the hill player that is past his prime to help me win.
Did you look at my defensive core for the upcoming season? I couldn't keep the puck out of the net last season so I decided to build from the net/defense out. With a defensive core of
Volchenkov-Seabrook Komisarek-Bieska Skoula-Giordano
with Hiller and Deslaurier in net along with Neuvirth on the farm I am quite happy with my back end.
If I keep out the puck more than I did last year I should be able to win a handful of more games than I did last season.
And to be start building up front with Erat and Stastny as 2/3rds of a top line that will help in the very near future as I do have JVR (who Calgary asked in the trade), Oscar Moller to be playing a bigger role come next season. I also have Tangradi, Eberle waiting to make an impact on the forwards. As for defense, I have Teubert, Petry and Del Zotto also waiting. Not to mention my goalies of Lalande and Jones.
If anything, I would be talking about the trade I did with Pittsburgh that sent Jeff Carter to the Pens and me receiving JVR, Giordano and Zach Kassian in return. I could have kept Carter and would have been better off, but to me in the long run, I believe got the better players.
I think you are just worried that I will have a better team than you in the next couple of years.

It is not guaranteed that I do have a top 5 pick this year or next. I mean this past draft, I had the 4th overall selection and from the additions I made this year should improve significantly upon last years results.

I dont understand wings i offered you rolston for Neidermayer, the cap difference is about the same from that offer to your Nylander/Deschamps trade. You told me you didnt like rolston's DF rating of 61 i guess nylanders 62 is a big diff. not that i really care as i got Joel ward instead who is better/younger then Nieds but you gave up more to get a lesser player, as Nylander has been a Healthy stratch every game this year where as Rolston is at least playing.

Solid pick up in Chris Mason. I really like him as a goalie

It was hard to let Mason go, but with Timmy in nets, and a lack luster top 6, I needed hagman more then mason right now.
